Season starts at Oulton Park for Lawrence’s GetANewVan.com Legend
The 2010 season has now started and Lawrence had a strong start to the year. After finishing 9th in practice Lawrence was upbeat.
He knew he set his fastest lap on a damp track, while the others set theirs on a perfectly dry track! Race 1 saw Lawrence and the GetANewVan.com Smart Motorsport Legend start 14th.
What a start as at the end of lap 1 Lawrence was in 3rd!! This saw a race long battle with Ross Marshall and John Higgins with Lawrence finishing 3rd. Only 0.1s off of the winner.
Lawrence started 7th in race 2 and scored another solid 3rd place. The final was the test, with Lawrence starting 18th.
By the end of lap 2 Lawrence was again in 3rd. On the penultimate lap Lawrence tangled with John Higgins and this enabled the following field to catch up. As they entered the final turn, Lawrence was launched off the track and had to fight to finish 7th.
2 wins at Brands, 4th in Championship
Going into the final rounds at Brands with a mathematical chance of the title was a good way to end the season for Lawrence and the Smart Motorsport team. Lawrence needed the first 3 to slip up but this was going to be a tall order.
On Saturday Lawrence scored 7th in the first race and 12th in race 2 after being knocked into the gravel. The final was held in terrible rain storms and Lawrence took the GetANewVan.com car to a dominating victory winning by 8.7 seconds.
Sunday saw Lawrence finish 6th in race 1, 7th in race 2 after a brake failure while going for the lead and another win in the final by 0.026s.
1st win of the year at Mallory Park,
6th overall podium!
What a consistent day for the Nathan Anthony LTD backed Smart Motorsport car.
Race 1 Lawrence picked up the lead from the start. Lawrence lost the lead with 3 laps to go but stayed close by in 2nd. Lawrence couldn’t find a way past the leader but as they came out the hairpin 3 wide something had to give way and Lawrence and Lee Fitzpatrick made contact and hit the Armco wall. Lawrence bounced out to finish 4th.
Race 2 saw Lawrence start from the back of the pack and finished 4th.
The final saw the closest finish this year. Lawrence started at the back of the pack and by lap 3 was in 3rd place and picked up the lead on lap 4. Lawrence was passed by Steve Treherne on the last lap but on the last corner Lawrence drove round the outside to take the win by 0.009s.
This saw Lawrence finish 2nd overall and close the gap to the top 3 in the championship
4th podium of the year at Croft
What a mixed weekend at Croft. The car was involved in a very heavy shunt at the first corner in race 1 on Saturday. Smart Motorsport did a fantastic job getting the car repaired but Lawrence had a lot of work to do starting from the Pit lane in race 2. An oil leak and a small engine fire kept Lawrence busy but a 5th place was a good result. Lawrence scored 5th in the final.
Sunday was better with 4th, 4th and 5th with the spare engine in, and this secured 2nd overall. With 4 podiums from 8 meetings, Lawrence is 4th in the championship.
2nd overall at Oulton Park
Lawrence opted for the wets in race 1 as the track was damp, starting from 12th on the grid this gamble paid off as at the end of lap 1 Lawrence was up to 4th. The safety car was deployed and this enabled the track to dry completely. As the race got underway the car didn’t handle and Lawrence managed to wrestle it home in 3rd.
Race 2 was dry and after starting 7th Lawrence had a race long which saw a 2nd place finish for Lawrence.
After 2 solid heat finishes Lawrence had a lot of work to do from the back of the grid. With one of his electric starts he found himself in 4th after the 3rd turn and the safety car was deployed. Lawrence lost grip on the car as it had started to rain and ran wide on the last lap but still finished 4th.
Mondello Park
After an excellent outing at Brands Hatch, Lawrence and the Smart Motorsport team went to Mondello Park full of confidence. After a wet practice Lawrence was 2nd fastest. Just 0.07 off of the fastest time and 2.1 seconds in front of 3rd. However all 6 races over the weekend were dry and Saturday saw the following results. Race 1 ended on lap 4 due to a front suspension failure. Race 2 Lawrence finished 6th and the final ended on lap 5 due to an engine failure.
Sunday was a better day, although Lawrence was running with the slightly slower spare engine he managed to get 6th, 5th,5th. This has dropped Lawrence down to 4th in the championship, but with 33 races left of the season there is a long way to go yet.
Lawrence stars at the Custom and Tuning show at Elmia, Sweden.
Lawrence spent the Easter break at Elmia, Sweden performing as part of the Terry Grant Stunt Team.
This was the first time that Lawrence had done this so he was thrown in the deep end, having to perform 12 shows over 4 days.
It was a successful weekend and one that could see him do a few more shows in the future.
